Vein Circulation

Although many people think of varicose veins as a nuisance or a cosmetic defect, the manifestation of varicose and spider veins is a sign that the circulatory system in the legs is not performing adequately.  Lifestyle, diet, adequate exercise and maintaining a healthy weight are important factors in ensuring vein and circulatory system health.  Nutritional strategies that help address varicose veins include nutrients that help improve vein structural integrity and vein tissue healing; reduce inflammation; and improve overall circulatory system health, including leg circulation.

(Guillaume et al. 1994)  Research on the components of Gotu Kola extract has shown potent anti-inflammatory activity (Somchit et al. 2004) and antioxidant activity. (Gupta et al. 2003)  Citrus Bioflavonoids have anti-inflammatory effects that make them useful in treating varicose veins. (Galati et al. 1994; Menkin 1995)

Nutrients that have been shown to help improve overall circulatory system health include Diosmin, which protects capillary bed microcirculation, increases lymphatic drainage and protects against microcirculatory damage. (Bergan 2001; Manthey 2000)  Horse Chestnut works to improve venous insufficiency by decreasing capillary leakage and permeability and improving overall circulatory system health.
